Trinity Tarot was completed in 2024 and is the result of more than 60 years of research into Tarot and
semiotics, that is, the science of signs and symbols. Like the original Tarot, Trinity Tarot is a model of
the world based on existential human experiences and their interconnections. Its archetypical
character helps to grasp things that cannot be captured on the original scale. Like the original Tarot,
Trinity Tarot also is an oracle game, helping the player to navigate through the complex and
mysterious fabric of individual existence.
Trinity Tarot, however, is no linear improvement of the traditional Tarot. While leaving unaltered the
essential meanings and connections, Trinity Tarot extends the card deck to 28 cards, improves the
iconographic elements and rearranges all elements within a threefold system. This system consists of
a group of active or sending elements, one of passive or receiving elements, and one of neutral or
mediating elements. The second radical innovation of Trinity Tarot is the medium through which this
model of the world is revealed to the viewer: In addition to a traditional card deck —which could be
called a pocket-sized museum — Trinity uses the new possibilities of extended reality (XR).
This is a world premiere for Tarot and points far into the future.
XR is congenial for Tarot. The world of Tarot is not that of material cards, but each individual card
points to a trans-material cosmos. The Trinity Tarot Garden takes the symbolic elements of its
individual cards and transposes them into a walk-in park. Only XR- means can make this possible.
The Trinity-Tarot-Garden can be set up at any location with sufficient space, preferably at sites with a
particular aesthetic or historical significance. Using a VR headset, visitors can stroll through a vast
virtual sculpture park consisting of 28 larger-than-life symbols of Trinity Tarot. The evocative power of
these translucent, floating symbols is amazing.
Recently, the Tarot Garden had been installed in the high mountains of the Dolomites, where it in
September 2025 it will be used to promote the Dolomites' inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
The other, complimentary realisation of the XR component at Warburgs Tarot show, Third Eye, find
your fate has been completed only a few weeks ago. This is the oracle game, and it is a truly
immersive experience. It will be installed inside the Warburg Institute building, in the Lecture Hall.
Here, viewers can enter a virtual space – literally a space, a starry sky – to receive and interpret their
personal Trinity Tarot oracle.

Ugo Dossi about XR as a means of artistic expression.
Not only are the expressive possibilities of XR new and fascinating, but also the process by which XR-
Art is created. For centuries, a painter would stand alone in front of the easel with a brush in his hand
and paint on the canvas. Creating XR art, to the contrary, is a complex team effort between the artist
and numerous highly qualified developers. The dynamic character of XR implies that they are
extremely curious, creative and often also quite young. It is not only their incredible technical skills,
but also their personalities and ideas that shape the final artwork. Hence, the boundary between
concept and execution is blurred in XR art.
For me, meeting Stefan and his team of govar was an immersion into a new world. A creative
symbiosis developed very quickly. We complement each other seamlessly. Ideas flow in from all sides
and find forms for their realisation. We called our co-operation Meta-Alchimya, because it really is
like a form of alchemy that brings together the immaterial and transforms it into an immersive reality.
Stefan Göppel and govar
Stefan Göppel is an internationally active pioneer, trailblazer, visionary, developer and operator of
extended reality applications. He has been working in this field for 14 years with the highest level of
expertise and the broadest network in the global scene. His company GOVAR based in Munich, was
founded in 2021 and expresses this in its name: GO Virtual Augmented Reality. Many of his
developments have focussed on high-tech applications and have been awarded the German Digital
Award, the Red Dot Design Award and the Grimme Online Award, among others. He entered the field
of art in 2023 with Ugo Dossi and the spectacular installation Meta-Alchemia at the Reiss-Engelhorn
Museum, which was honoured with the international Next Reality Award.

*XR= extended reality is an umbrella term encompassing Augmented Reality (Ar), Virtual
Reality( (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR). It combines real and virtual environments to create immersive
experiences, often using computer-generated elements and wearables as XR-glasses.
